Worm Composting Bin for Cultivating Organic Fertilizer
The Vermicomposting Cultivation Box is a circular system designed to process raw food waste, demonstrating the foothill farm’s commitment to resource reuse and circular agriculture in practice. By introducing European red worms, the system converts everyday raw food waste into natural nutrients that nourish crops, forming an environmentally friendly and sustainable cycle.
The food source for the worms consists of leafy vegetables, fruit peels, and other raw kitchen waste generated daily from the amusement park and hotel restaurant operations. After being digested by the worms, this waste is transformed into nutrient-rich vermicast, which serves as a natural organic fertilizer to support the growth of crops planted on both sides of the cultivation box. Once harvested, the mature produce is returned to the restaurants for use, completing a closed-loop cycle from “food waste – composting – cultivation – dining table.”
Compared with traditional composting methods or incinerating food waste, the vermicomposting cultivation system requires less space and processing time while effectively reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It contributes to carbon reduction efforts and embodies the core values of resource circulation and sustainable agriculture.
